At crossroads?

Lot was moving about with Abram, and it got to a point where the land could not support them both, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together. And quarreling arose between their herders.

So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”

This was a ‘cross road’ for Lot but this is what he did, he looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. He pitched his tent near Sodom!

Lot’s decision brought him a lot of trouble, and twice he had to be saved by Abram. The first time was when he was taken captive by the kings of Elam, Goyim, Shinar and Ellasar (Genesis 14 verse 16).

I’m sure we remember the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, how God destroyed the cities with a rain of fire and how, through Abraham’s intervention, God sent an Angel to take Lot, together with his family to a safe place, even though he lost his wife along the way.

We all get to crossroads in life, where we have to make decisions regarding our life partner, home, work place, church, a trip we want to make, a school for the children … anything at all. Remember, this one decision could be life defining.

Instead of taking a decision based on the physical things you see, some decisions are better taken with your eyes closed as you pray to God. Psalm 32 verse 8 says: “I will lead you along the best pathway for your life”

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take”

David formed the habit of constantly asking... Lord, shall I go?

  1. I think as human beings our being very rational is sometimes a problem. We think about things, do cost/benefit analysis and make the 'rational' decision. Even when we ask God, are we patient to really hear? Are we sure we really have heard or our thoughts are just beclouded by our 'juicy' choices?
God definitely knows the end of a thing from the very begining, we just have to trust Him.

    1. i believe thats why 1 Corinthians 3 verse 19 says the wisdom of the world is foolishness before God. We really cant achieve much without him. We will fail if we rely on our 'expert strategies'.

      God help us

  2. The Bible says "there is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is destruction", whatever it is that pleases our physical eyes may not be God's best for us, therefore when at a crossroad, our prayers should be O Lord please order my steps for each walk i take in Jesus name-(quote)"the steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord"
    Peace

    1. It is my prayer that we learn to rely on God, especially when it matters most. Shalom
