Genesis 31
Jacob had become uncomfortable in the house of Laban, his father-in-law. Laban's sons envied him and Laban's countenace had also changed towards him.
The Lord, seeing the situation Jacob was in said to him, "Return to the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred, and I will be with you". Personally, I believe the most important thing God said to him was the last phrase, "I will be with you" because it meant that every other good thing he could hope for or dream of, was guaranteed.
.. So Jacob called his wives, Leah and Rachel, told them what God had said, and set them upon camels. They were on their way to that place, where God had sent them, and had also promised that he will be with them. But look what happens... Rachel 'stole' the gods her father worshiped and took them along with her!
Let's apply the same to our lives today, God has promised us a beautiful future, he said our expectations will not be cut short, so many promises we can find in the bible. Sometimes, it is even personalized when the Holy Spirit confirms these things to us, or maybe when we are in church, and a word is given, and you know for sure, that that word is for you.
We all have pasts, we were all raised in different ways, somethings we pick up along the way, others have been imbibed in us from childhood, but this is what matters... When we come to Christ, we come under a new covenant, and it is time to check our luggage for anything that is not of God because the truth is, those things will hinder us from getting to the place of promise.
God gives a word, but you still want to consult your father's oracle, or one man with great reputation for 'seeing the future', you claim you are looking for confirmation. The truth is, The Holy Spirit in us confirms the word of God.
Rachel was convinced she needed the gods of her father for protection, prosperity and survival, she was wrong! Do we have things or beliefs that we hold on to today, that we put our trust in, contrary to the will of the father. It's time to throw them all out, because only then can we be sure of a safe arrival at that place which God has pre-destined for us.
If God has said He will be with you, what business do you have with other gods?
Well said Sis but why do this things happen?
ReplyDeleteI can think of 2 reasons:- first is unbelief. See Heb3:12-19. Not believing what God has instore for us. There are always a consequences for that.
Second is not knowing/understanding who we are in Christ. The authority we have in Christ. Our circumstances often dictates our actions, our belief takes over, we try and sort things out ourselves then suddenley realise God is on the throne.
As you mentioned, so many promises are in the bible for us, we need to start claiming those promises and holding on to God as He will never fail us.
There is a song that goes 'I am not moved by what I see, I am only moved by the word of God, Halleluyah!'.
ReplyDeleteAnother song goes "The word is working mightily in me, no matter what the circumstance is, what I feel or see, the word is working mightily in me".
The truth is, it takes the grace of God sometimes to hold on to those promises. You remember you were telling me about past victories the other time, I believe that once we think of those past victories we have had, trusting God, then we can just do the same in our present situation, trusting him still.
Thanks for the comment
thanks for this sharing.it really applies to what i am going thru.i recently told God i was tired of fighting the good fight of faith, i have fought for most of my life, all christian activity became a bore and suddenly i discorvered tnat i was subtly beckoning on lugages from the past. Thanks and God bless you.
ReplyDeleteReading your comment really blessed me and it also opened my eyes to see something in a way i have never seen before
Delete... what we actually fight for is our faith because the devil knows that once he comes against us, he cannot win the battle for as long as we are aligned with God.
So the devil, being a strategist, tries everything, wanting us to loose that faith in God, knowing that our faith connects us to God, just like the umblical cord connects a baby to its mother.
Thats why i believe Jude said we should earnestly contend for the faith we have (Jude verse 3)
Thank you and God bless you.
If only we know the destruction that comes each time we pack an extra luggage or consult other mediums, then we will learn to be totally dependent on God. We should learn from the mistakes of Rachel and be careful of what our luggage contain as we continue to walk this journey.
ReplyDeletePeace
You are right my sister. We can only depend on God fully when we trust him fully, knowing that he is more than able, all the time. God help us.
